The small things

It's the small things in life that make it so worthwhile, although sometimes that's hard to remember. The Cains have been running the rat race of life, like every other family, couple, person out there, and when the going gets tough, the tough get going, right?

My goal for the rest of this year is to stop long enough to enjoy the little things. Some of the small things we are enjoying now are:
  • Shreaks of laughter from Catherine Ellis
  • Catherine Ellis recognizing us when we walk into a room
  • All kinds of noises around 5:00 a.m. when she starts to awaken (it sounds like Talladega Super Speedway in her nursery sometimes)
  • The sun! (it's been raining for days and days and days here)
  • Cain babysitting
  • Dinner out with friends
  • Visits from family and friends
I've fallen behind on my blog, but have no fear, we're trucking along! As always, we ask for your prayers and know that we are praying for you and your families too.

To make up for our absence here -- here is a little video from Saturday night. We had a few friends over to watch the game and Catherine Ellis was the hit of the party as usual!

Enjoy!

5 months old....

Happy 5 month birthday Catherine Ellis! We can't believe it's been 5 months since she joined us. We've had such a wonderful time getting to know our daughter and learning all the fabulous things this life has to offer all over again. What a treasure! Our cup runneth over!

Catherine Ellis has a new trick most every day now. Here are some of the things she has accomplished in the last month:
  • She can roll from one side to the other easily
  • She can make the razzing sound with her tongue
  • She's discovered she can make all kinds of noises and that she does indeed have a voice!
  • She can hold her own bottle
  • She can hold her feet and pull them towards her mouth
  • She can find and suck her thumb with ease
  • She's cutting four new teeth (we think, it's seldom she lets us get a peak)
  • She's standing a lot
  • She's close to sitting up and when she is not sitting up she's constantly pulling forward to try to reach the upright position
  • She's eating rice cereal a few times a week
  • She's starting to pay attention to the television
  • She's still wearing 0-3 month clothes, but some 3-6 months due to the need for extra length for those long legs
  • She likes the exersaucer and trying to jump up and down on her feet
  • She can grab an object and now hold on to it for some length of time
  • She is starting to recognize her name
  • She's riding in the stroller without her car seat (meaning she's steady enough sitting up that she doesn't need assistance from the car seat)
  • She's sitting in the highchair at school with her older friends while they eat
  • She's interested in the food Mommy and Daddy eat -- she watches us literally take the food from the plate to our mouths...she's memorized
Thank you Lord for all of your blessings and for our healthy, vivacious 5 month old!

Labor Day Weekend

We headed to the beach for Labor Day weekend to attend a wedding of a friend of David's from high school. It was a great weekend filled with good times. One of my closest friends, Corrie, and her boyfriend, Jamie, joined us for the weekend and we had a great time catching up.

We were so busy getting ready for the beach, spending time on the beach, and watching football that we didn't take many pictures. But here are a few! We are blessed that we were able to spend the last few days of summer together with great friends. Catherine Ellis is one lucky gal to be surrounded by so many folks that love her!

Beach Bound...

Catherine Ellis has discovered she's quite entertaining and can make multiple sounds. Here she is on the drive down to the beach. Enjoy!

First day at the beach went well -- we spent about 4 hours on the beach under an umbrella and she loved it. She slept, played, and even got in the water a little bit. We didn't get many pictures, but we'll take some more tomorrow and post. Here she is with her Daddy before dinner....
